Playing in the most unusual atmosphere in baseball, literally speaking, the Colorado Rockies are a unique team. With the light air making the ball travel farther and breaking pitches lose their magic in many cases, the mile high atmosphere has proven hazardous to the career of many a pitcher. Since pitching is the cornerstone of many winning teams, this has caused a conundrum in Colorado. Still, the Rockies are one of the most exciting teams in the majors year in and year out do to the offensive show the stadium allows them to put on.
By hiring Don Baylor as hitting coach, the Rockies hope to improve their future by reaching into their past. Baylor, 59, was the Rockies' first manager, holding that job from 1993 through 1998.
