Huston Street Biography

Huston Lowell Street (born August 2, 1983 in Austin, Texas) is a relief pitcher for the Oakland Athletics.

Street attended the University of Texas from 2002-2004, where he was a pitcher on the school's baseball team. He is widely regarded as one of the best collegiate closers of all time. He earned a form of All-American honors at Texas every season he was there and helped Texas win the College World Series in 2003. In the process, Huston won the College World Series MVP for his brilliant work as the team's closer.

Street was drafted by the Athletics in 2004 and was called up to the major leagues at the start of the 2005 season. He began the season as the setup man for Oakland's then-closer, Octavio Dotel. When Dotel underwent Tommy John surgery early in the season, Street became the closer. The Athletics are planning to keep Street as their closer in the long term.

As of August 27th, 2005, Huston has played in 52 games, compiling a 4-1 record and a 1.28 ERA and earning 17 saves in 21 opportunities. In 63.1 innings he has given up 9 earned runs and has struck out 63 batters.

Street is the son of former University of Texas quarterback James Street.
