While at Georgia Tech, Mark hit .409 with 36 home runs and 165 RBI in 140 games over three seasons for the Yellow Jackets. In 2000, Mark won the Dick Howser Trophy as the National Collegiate Player of the Year after hitting .427 with 18 home runs and 80 RBI in 66 games. That season he was also selected the nation's top player by Baseball America and The Sporting News.
In the summer of 2000, Mark played with Team USA, helping the American squad win the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Mark led Team USA in batting (.385), runs scored (26), hits (46), RBI (23) and total bases (70).
